Medical Director Survey

The 2012 survey is now open for participation

The Medical Director Survey is recognized as one of the most comprehensive resources available on medical director compensation for physicians who provide administrative-related duties.

Medical directors today serve an important management role in just about every hospital in the country. The scope of duties and the hours required to get the job done vary from hospital to hospital. The majority of medical director positions tend to be part-time positions usually filled by private physicians from the hospital’s medical staff.

Traditionally, it was not unusual for physicians to volunteer their time to hospitals to fulfill its medical director duties; however, as the duties and the required work hours have increased, physicians are now demanding that hospitals provide them with reasonable compensation for their work effort.

It is not uncommon for hospitals to have medical director positions for most of their major departments and centers of excellence. The financial obligation to procure these professional services can be sizeable for hospitals, but in many cases worthwhile if the medical directors assist hospitals to achieve greater efficiency and improve quality of care.
